3G network comes to a close
With the ongoing termination of 3G by AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in the USA this February to free up spectrum for 5G. Essentially to increase internet 📶 speeds and coverage.
The 5G spectrum is a range of radio frequencies of about 3.8 GHz and the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency range that is 24.25 GHz and above.
Overview of the other generations.
1G first generation
wireless network
Basic voice service
• Analog-based protocols
2G second generation
wireless network
• Designed for voice
• Improved coverage and capacity
3G third generation
wireless network
• Designed for voice with some data consideration (multimedia, text, internet)
• First mobile broadband
4G forth generation
wireless network
• Designed primarily for data
• IP-based protocols (LTE)
• True mobile broadband
5G basically provides the wireless network with lower latency, higher capacity, and increased bandwidth. The termination of 3G will therefore have a great contribution towards 5G growth.
