Internet Explorer: End of an era

In 2015, availing of Microsoft Edge as an alternative to Internet Explorer rather than as an update is applaudable.

The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life. - Bill Gates

Internet Explorer was undeniably one of the most popular web browsers in the early days but with the increase in improvement in what a web browser can do, Internet Explorer was, unfortunately, lagging. This among other factors could have attributed to the planned discontinuing of Internet Explorer on 15th June

Modern Web Browsers
Most modern web browsers such as Google Chrome, Opera, Samsung Internet, Brave, Microsoft Edge,Firefox and Yandex browser were built on the Chromium.
Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web.
Chromium was and is still far better in performance and immensely attributed to more tasks being achieved such as seamless gaming (cloud-based gaming such as Google Stadia), fast web browsing etc.

Microsoft introduced Microsoff Edge on Windows 10 in 2015. Later in 2017, Microsoft Edge was availed for Android and IOS as well. Microsoft Edge a cross-platform web browser was provided as an alternative rather than an updated version of Internet Explorer. This is certainly commendable because it immensely contributed to the growth of internet users through Microsoft based web browsers.

In addition: The most recent data from July 2021 shows that about 158 million people use this web browser now. As of May 2022, Microsoft Edge accounts for 10.07% of desktop usage across the globe.

Microsoft Edge continues to grow, this is evident by the ongoing push and testing to introduce of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) for encrypting data transfer. One of the features available on some browsers such as Opera.
Generally, innovations undoubtedly have Pros and Cons, hence for longevity in the Tech industry continuous innovativenwss is key.
